Joshua And Jericho

When Moses died, Joshua became leader of the Israelites.

And God said, "Everything I promised you through Moses, I will give to you!"

1:3 every place that the soul of your feet shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses. And he said, "Be strong and of good courage:" Vs. 6,7,9, 18

And the reason for not having fear is in 2:11, "For the Lord your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath."

So Joshua planned to take the city of jericho.

It was in Jericho that Jesus said, "Whosoever will great among you, let him be your minister. And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant."

It was in Jerocho that Jesus stood still and called to two blind men, and said, "What will ye that I do unto you?"

Their eyes immediately received sight!

Bartimaeus lived in jericho. Jesus heard him crying out and commanded him to be called.

They told him the greatest thing he had ever heard, "Be of good comfort, rise, He calleth thee." - Oh, to be called by Jesus!

And his faith made him whole!
And he followed Jesus in the way!!

A certain man, on his way to Jericho, travelling on the "Bloody Highway", was fell upon by some thieves.

We all know the story of "The Good Samaritan."

A rich publican named Zachaeus climed a tree in Jericho and Jesus spent the night at his house. Because of his curiosity, salvation came to his house. He received Jesus joyfully!

Jericho was 18 miles from Jerusalem and about six miles from the Jordan river.

And so Joshua sent two spies into Jericho. To get the lay of the land.

And there they met Rahab, who hid them from the enemy.

She said, "I know about your God."

"I know that God hath given you the land!"

"I know we are terrified because of you!"

"Our men faint because of you!"

She said, "For the Lord your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath."

Rahab was saved because she came to God!

Joshua wasted time sending the spies, because nothing they found out was used to take Jericho" God had a plan!!

He said, "Sanctify yourselves: For tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you!" 3:5

Now let's read - Joshua 6:1-20:

God had a plan!

God's ways are not our ways.

He said, march around the town every day for six days. Blow the trumpets, but no one is to make a sound with his mouth.

What a silly thing to do!

Those inside thought the Israelites were crazy!

These they had been so afraid of!

Those marching thought Joshua was crazy! This man who dared take Moses' place! Moses never would have done a foolish thing like this!

And they marched around.

Once, twice, three times,

four, five and six!

The trumpets blowing! And nothing happened!

But God had a plan!

Joshua said, "Now today, march around it seven times!"

It had been hard enough just going around it one time!

Now they had to march miles! More miles! My feet are hurting!

Would they never stop?

These were trained fighting men!

And this wasn't fighting!!

But Joshua said, "Keep on marching!"

Then at the right time, Joshua said, "Now all the people shout!!"

And they did!

"And the walls came tumbling down!"

Let's don't just make a start for God -

Let's go on 'til the job's done!

Let's march when we need to march!

Let's blow the trumpet when the trumpet is needed!

Then, let's shout when it's shouting time!!!

And God will bring every wall down!
