Isaiah 28:9-12

9. Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? [them that are] weaned from the milk, [and] drawn from the breasts.
10. For precept [must be] upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, [and] there a little:
11. For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.
12. To whom he said, This [is] the rest [wherewith] ye may cause the weary to rest; and this [is] the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

Isaiah was being ridiculed by the people of that day. He had tried to teach them God's way - to give them the law - the way to come to God.

They said, "All you do is keep saying the same thing over and over again. You treat us like babies who can't understand anything but the simplest messages. We are not 'just-weaned' babies, yet you bring us the simplest things - and repeat it over and over. You sound like some stammering foreigner - your language is to babies, not grown men like us."

And Isaiah said, "For YOU it MUST, it HAS be laid out line upon line, precept upon precept, and YOU STILL WON'T BELIEVE!

"And because you won't believe - and never will, and because you have scoffed at God's message AND His messenger, this is the way God will speak to you in the last days,

This is what Paul was talking about in

1 Corinthians 14:21-22

21. In the law it is written, With [men of] other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.
22. Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying [serveth] not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.

Now, this Church believes that those who have been baptized in the Holy Ghost will speak in tongues, and I do too. I believe that every person who is baptized in the Holy Ghost WILL speak in tongues. The scriptures have more than enough proof of that!

But the over-emphasis on speaking in tongues has been very detrimental to the Church's main goal - to win souls and to bring deliverance to the people.

With the giving of tongues on the day of Pentecost, God was saying. "The day has come! This is the sign to you who would scoff.

"Because you accused me of stammering and using language you won't understand, that's EXACTLY how I WILL speak to you!

"I'm still saying the same old thing in the same old way, and YOU WON'T BELIEVE IT NOW EITHER!"

BUT, along with the tongues, God gave the believer's SOMETHING ELSE!!

Let's read

Acts 1:8. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

This was the last thing Jesus said before He was received to the very "Right Hand of Power."

He didn't say, "You shall speak in tongues."

Many Christians speak beautiful, flowing tongues. They give and interpret messages from God. They pray in tongues, sing in tongues. They speak the heavenly language . . . .

The power of God unto righteousness does not show up in their lives! Their lives don't change, their actions don't change, their language doesn't change! You can't distinguish them from the world!

Paul said, "I can speak in tongues all day long, but if I don't have LOVE, I am WORTHLESS!"

Why don't we have the POWER that comes with the Holy Ghost?

The early believers were scattered and spread the gospel everywhere they went: Question: Was the "sign among them" speaking in tongues? Or the POWER?

As long as we look for the TONGUE, we won't have the POWER!

We want to use the tongues as "evidence" of the baptism in the Holy Ghost . . . But God said it is NOT evidence to US, but it is evidence to the UNBELIEVER!!

Evidence to the BELIEVER remains the POWER!

Isaiah 66:18-22

18 For I [know] their works and their thoughts: it shall come, that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come, and see my glory.
19 And I will set a sign among them, and I will send those that escape of them unto the nations, [to] Tarshish, Pul, and Lud, that draw the bow, [to] Tubal, and Javan, [to] the isles afar off, that have not heard my fame, neither have seen my glory; and they shall declare my glory among the Gentiles.
20 And they shall bring all your brethren [for] an offering unto the LORD out of all nations upon horses, and in chariots, and in litters, and upon mules, and upon swift beasts, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, saith the LORD, as the children of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel into the house of the LORD.
21 And I will also take of them for priests [and] for Levites, saith the LORD.
22 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.

Is there Power in my life unto Salvation?

Is there Power in my life unto Righteousness?

Is there Power in my life to Love?

Is there Power in my life to bring Deliverance?

Is there Power in my life to bring Comfort?

Is there Power in my life to Heal the Sick?

Is there Power in my life to Bind up the Brokenhearted?

Is there Power in my life to Set the Captives Free?

I can speak with the tongues of angels, but can I speak the language the world can understand? The tongues of Man?

Paul could do both!
