|The loaves and the fishes
Preached 8/11/95 at The Longtown, OK, Full Gospel Church
14 And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.
The disciples saw the multitude, the sicknesses, the healings....
They were present for ALL that Jesus was teaching . . .
15 And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals.
The disciples saw empty bellies and depleted supplies . . .
16 But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat.
Jesus saw the need and the answer. The multitude needed food: the disciples needed knowledge and understanding.
17 And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes.
18 He said, Bring them hither to me.
We must bring what we have to Jesus . . .
19 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to [his] disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.
Jesus "blessed", "brake" and "gave". He gave it to the disciples: the disciples gave to the multitude. The miracle happened WHILE THE LOAVES AND FISHES WERE IN THEIR HANDS! As it passed thru their very hands, the Lord supplied food for 7 to 8 thousand people!
20 And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.
Every disciple (All TWELVE) gathered a basket each.
A Few Days Later, they were again in a multitude of people. Jesus Had a message that drew multitudes of multitudes!
32 Then Jesus called his disciples [unto him], and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.
33 And his disciples say unto him, Whence should we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to fill so great a multitude?
Everybody say, "Sounds familiar!" After having a miracle in their own hands, they STILL don't have a clue!
34 And Jesus saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven, and a few little fishes.
35 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground.
Still sounds familiar!
36 And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and brake [them], and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.
This is His second demonstration. Again He "blessed", "brake" and "gave!" Exactly the same situation: exactly the same solution and method. I have been trying to train my young dog to do certain things. Trainers say the best way is to repeat the training over and over.
37 And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken [meat] that was left seven baskets full.
Same results as the first time! Did His disciples learn anything?
38 And they that did eat were four thousand men, beside women and children.
Another time: The disciples are alone with Jesus, in a ship. You need faith even when you are alone with Jesus!
14 Now [the disciples] had forgotten to take bread, neither had they in the ship with them more than one loaf.
I'm sure they told Jesus they had forgotten to bring enough food!
15 And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and [of] the leaven of Herod.
I think He was beginning to get a little disgusted or angry . . .
16 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, [It is] because we have no bread.
Is He angry because we forgot the bread?
17 And when Jesus knew [it], he saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened?
It is NOT because you forgot your bread, your provisions, it is because you forgot your provider! There are some things you HAVE TO LEARN before I go!
18 Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?
19 When I brake the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve.
20 And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven.
21 And he said unto them, How is it that ye do not understand?
How is it that you don't understand?
What ELSE did they forget?
13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?
14 And they said, Some [say that thou art] John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
Well, He had been training THEM to teach the people who He was!
He thought, well, maybe I better find out if THEY THEMSELVES know!
15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
At least Simon Peter knew!
17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed [it] unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
We HAVE TO GET THAT REVELATION! Then He can build His Church!
18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
No devil or demon: no principality or power can stand against the Church that has THAT revelation!
19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Jesus said, "You bind demons, diseases, weaknesses ON EARTH and I will BIND THEM IN HEAVEN!"
"You loose deliverance, health and prosperity ON EARTH and I will LOOSE THEM IN HEAVEN!"
